This process begins with the manufacturers who produce the goods. The wholesalers or distributors who buy from the manufacturers then resell to retailers. Finally the retailers who buy from the wholesalers, sell to the consumer. At every step of this process, there’s a markup and profit margin built into the purchase.

Point of sale was originally when a consumer brings their product up to a cash register and pays for the product. In today’s world, this has transformed to a multitude of different types of points of sale. These can vary from self checkouts, to using a card, your mobile phone, purchasing through a computer on an online shop, and more.
