Crisis Plans for the Win
A crisis is a time of difficult matter where problems tend to affect the whole people and more than often small businesses.
Crises happen all the time, but when was the last time a pandemic occurred? COVID-19 took a toll on businesses by forcing them to close down due to the lack of profit. How could you fix that? How do businesses prepare for unexpected events like a global pandemic?
Small businesses are the ones who are affected the most. As you invest in your business, you should also consider having a crisis plan. A crisis communication plan is a plan to convey with your clients and staff members during a crisis that injures the business and puts them in a crucial situation. A crisis can be anything from spreading rumors, cyber attacks or in this case the COVID-19 global pandemic. Anything could be a crisis, but how do you manage it when it happens to you and your business?
Over 5,800 small businesses had to shut down due to the pandemic within the time frame of one week.
“Does it matter if my business is small?”
The answer is simple, no. It doesn’t matter how big or tiny the business is, there should always be a crisis communication plan. The key is to plan ahead in case of such misfortunes. Nobody wants to see their businesses fail. Here are some tips on how to come up with a crisis plan for your business.
Tip 1: Know the risks - Businesses fail because they don’t lay out all the possible actions that could hurt their line of work. Sit down with your staff and lay out all chances on what could happen.
Tip 2: Identify contingencies- How do you handle that probability if it does occur? Not only is listing the risks important, but knowing how to handle each of those risks is important.
Tip 3: Build a plan- Who can you reach out to during your crisis? Do you have the stakeholders and support to help during this time? Now is the time to build upon your plan and discuss what will happen and how you and your network will handle the crisis when and if it happens.
Tip4: Update frequently- As you gain and lose employees, you should revisit this plan quite often and make any adjustments needed. It’s important to update your crisis plan because at any moment new risks could occur.
